Boston, Mass. The event goes from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be emceed by Jenny Johnson, Host of NESN’s Dining Playbook. There will be passed hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment and a silent auction featuring several items from Boston’s four major sports teams. Individual tickets cost $250 and can be purchased at . Christopher’s Haven will also honor Equity Residential, who continue to support Christopher’s Haven’s mission with leased space at one of their Boston properties.
“Our annual fashion show is our marquee event to shine a spotlight on our organization and our ongoing commitment to provide free housing to families whose children are undergoing cancer treatment,” said Executive Director, Joyce Duvall. “Thanks to the loyal support from one of our longest-running partners, Equity Residential, who continue to grow with us and allocate several apartments to our families, we should hit our milestone of assisting 500 families by the end of 2019.”
Christopher’s Haven operates and manages nine residential apartments and a community area (The Loft) that offers a space for recreation, sharing and support for the families. 438 families to-date have stayed in the fully-furnished and equipped apartments located at One Emerson Place (across the street from Massachusetts General Hospital). Families value the close proximity to the area medical centers, treasure the ability to be together in an apartment setting and cherish the much-needed support with other families facing similar circumstances during interaction in The Loft.
“Equity Residential deeply values its nearly fifteen year relationship with Christopher’s Haven,” said Alec Brackenridge, executive vice president, investments at Equity Residential. “We contribute to living space but, perhaps more importantly, our employees regularly volunteer their time and support of this critically-needed, worthy cause.”
The Loft is utilized to provide programming for children undergoing outpatient treatment, as well as their siblings and parents. Activities coordinated primarily by volunteers, include massage therapy, pet therapy, arts & crafts, movie nights, birthday and holiday parties, bell-ringing ceremonies, outings to sporting events and excursions to local attractions. Siblings are an important part of the Christopher’s Haven community as well. They offer programs that ensure the siblings of the child receiving treatment are included in summer camps, excursions, sporting events tickets and other experiences. All siblings are part of any program or activity offered at Christopher’s Haven.
